Who Administers Anesthesia?

An anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist is usually responsible for the administration of anesthesia during a surgical procedure or childbirth. Anesthesiologists are physicians who have undergone several years of training in the administration of anesthetics. Nurse anesthetists are registered nurses (RNs) who have undergone several years of training in the administration of anesthetics and are licensed to practice nurse anesthesia.
